As can easily be deduced, we are focused on behavioural  change and value reorientation of our youths through the avenue of civic education and role modeling. We believe in the strength and potentials of our children and youths as budding leaders who need grooming on leadership fundamentals and ethics. Our approach is to constantly inform, engage and reward them, towards excellence.

It is noteworthy, that beyond what we say, it is what we do as adults that count for the younger ones. They watch what we say and do, and many times get confused at our inconsistencies and contradictions. We must show examples of great work ethics, good manners and a culture of excellence in our homes, in school, at work and at play, in order to attract the attention of the younger generation.

In order to model appropriate mindset and behaviour for the young ones, we must remember that they learn effectively from how we live before them. In her popular poem, that has become the mantra for millions of homes, the late Dorothy Law Nolte penned a home truth about young people’s learning that has become our main guideline in RivEthics. It says:

If children live with criticism,
They learn to condemn.
If children live with hostility,
They learn to fight.
If children live with ridicule,
They learn to be shy.
If children live with shame,
They learn to feel guilty.
If children live with encouragement,
They learn confidence.
If children live with tolerance,
They learn to be patient.
If children live with praise,
They learn to appreciate.
If children live with acceptance,
They learn to love.
If children live with approval,
They learn to like themselves.
If children live with honesty,
They learn truthfulness.
If children live with security,
They learn to have faith in themselves and others.
If children live with friendliness,
They learn the world is a nice place in which to live.

Through our Radio program, schools visits and community tours, we plan to engage thousands (possibly millions) of Rivers people in life-changing, character-moulding conversations that shall re-vibrate and echo throughout the Niger Delta and project to all the 6 geo-political zones of Nigeria. For instance, our planned “readers are leaders” programme will pave way for both academic and leadership excellence  among our children and youths in just a few years.

As RivEthics ambassadors and advocates emerge across Rivers States to define a new line of conversation that will consign hatred and violence to the dustbins of history, while promoting progress, peace and empowerment, Rivers people will regain the prime position as the Treasure Base of our country, full of an intelligent army of knowledge workers, professionals, inventors, innovators, scientists, technologists, business leaders, successful artists, judges, lawyers, teachers, and the like.
