Small businesses are the engine fueling innovation, employment generation and economic growth. Only by creating an environment where entrepreneurship can prosper and where entrepreneurs can try new ideas and empower others can we ensure that many of the world’s challenges will not go unaddressed.
A study done by the Federal Office of Statistics shows that 97% of all businesses in Nigeria are “small businesses”. These small businessesprovide, on average, 50% of Nigeria’s employment, and 50% of its industrial output. And similar statistics exist around the world. Entrepreneurship is key to societal growth and development. Entrepreneurship is empowering and inspiring, especially to women, young people and the vulnerable in society.
There are certain characteristics of entrepreneurs that continuously create a culture of success around them and make them admirable:
1. Entrepreneurs believe in possibilities.
2. Entrepreneurs see opportunities when others see difficulties.
3. Entrepreneurs take calculated risks.
4. Entrepreneurs are focused.
5. Entrepreneurs hustle.
6. Entrepreneurs know that nothing is unrealistic.
7. Entrepreneurs embrace a childlike wonder and curiosity.
8. Entrepreneurs contribute to something bigger than themselves.
9. Entrepreneurs create, learn and grow.
Entrepreneurs always remind themselves that they are braver than they believe, stronger than they seem, and smarter than they think. So they take the leap and go for excellence, thereby giving life their best shot. Celebrate and encourage entrepreneurs around you today on their journey to the top.
